New Work

Frequently over the course of this art career, I want to stay alert and responsive to change. I challenge myself now adding a couple new gallery pages to show adventurous exploration in styles, genres, mediums - anything resembling a develpment - even some journaling ideas not for sale but to let you know to be on the lookout for something new. To help me know what sustains your interest, feel free to comment or ask questions. Thank you for looking at my growing collection - over 25 years worth. This is my life!

Abstraction

Contemporary and original paintings explore abstract composition with variations of line, shape, color, value and texture, using specific constraints which serve the composition of the painting. The final outcome is not pre-planned, rather the painting must leave to the viewer some elements of the unexpected. As a musician plays jazz by instinct with rhythm and harmony, so Gilpatric's abstract paintings soothe, entertain, and fascinate the collector, finding endless new streams and segues to empower both concentration and diversion.

Journals of Explorations

Painting Rhode Island, Maine and Massachusetts (Cape Cod and SouthCoast) seacoast and rural landscapes has become an intense and satisfying habit developed over a couple of decades. No matter what the weather presents, I am nearly as inspired to paint views out through the windows, interiors and still life set ups with food, flowers and household objects, or just plain exploring and trying out new ideas.

Interesting shapes and colors and changing patterns of the light make my work challenging and unpredictable, even in the winter when colors and values are muted the angle of sunlight changes everything.
